This group of pupils worked together to build a tower. When I asked them what it was one of the pupils replied “It’s a tower for Little Red Riding Hood.”

Today we have been looking at size. First we looked at the size of some of the children in class and discussed who was the tallest and who was the shortest the children worked together as a class to tell each other where they would need to move to to be in order. Some of the children then went off to the craft table and ordered pictures from the smallest to the biggest.
Reception have had a great time taking part in World Nursery Rhyme Week. The children have learned different songs throughout the week, created pictures with paint, telescopes and even made a boat! Today the children dressed up as their favourite nursery rhyme character. Can you guess which nursery rhyme they are from?
As part of World Nursery Rhyme Week the children in Reception will be learning a nursery rhyme each day and taking part in activities linking to that rhyme. This helps develop the children’s communication and language, literacy skills, maths and helps them to develop socially and emotionally.
The rhyme we focused on today was Bobby Shafto. The children enjoyed learning the song and coming up with actions to help us remember it .
The children then made telescopes to help them look out onto the sea and some children used boxes to make a boat!
In Reception, we have been learning about different shapes. Today some of the children used the shapes to create their own shape patterns. When i asked the children what shapes they had used in their patterns some of them were able to tell me that they had used a hexagon and how many sides and corners it had!

Reception have had lots of fun today learning how to make bread. The children learned how the dough has to rest and get bigger before they can knead and shape it. The children first washed their hands before starting and then used the palms of their hands to stretch, roll and manipulate the dough. Some of the children were surprised how sticky the dough was! The children then made bread rolls, plaited the bread and created a small loaf which was to be cooked and served to the children in school this week.
