This pupil began to read the book ‘The Little Red Hen.’ She spoke about the different characters and said that the hen was picking seeds. She then went on to say how the seeds would need water to grow, she was being a Thinkadocis by making links and having her own ideas.

Reception received a special delivery in class today. All of the children each received a reading pack which consisted of a book and a guide for parents/carers to help with reading at home. The children were all very excited to take their new books home and do some reading and talking about the pictures with their adults.
Today, these children decided they would read to the teddies during continuous provision. As we have been looking at Goldilocks, the children independently chose a book about bears and began to recite the story from memory.

Thank you to our parents and carers that came to our stay and play today. We hope that you enjoyed reading with the children and that you are now more aware of how the children in EYFS learn reading and writing.
Well done to this pupil who chose a book independently and took an interest in the illustrations. She handled the book correctly and enjoyed sitting in the teachers chair, using her imagination to pretend she was showing the book to a class of children.
