This pupil began to read the book ‘The Little Red Hen.’ She spoke about the different characters and said that the hen was picking seeds. She then went on to say how the seeds would need water to grow, she was being a Thinkadocis by making links and having her own ideas.

As part of World Nursery Rhyme Week the children in Reception will be learning a nursery rhyme each day and taking part in activities linking to that rhyme. This helps develop the children’s communication and language, literacy skills, maths and helps them to develop socially and emotionally.
The rhyme we focused on today was Bobby Shafto. The children enjoyed learning the song and coming up with actions to help us remember it .
The children then made telescopes to help them look out onto the sea and some children used boxes to make a boat!

Today some of the children in reception designed a map to help Little Red Riding Hood find her Grandmas house. We worked together to think of things she might come across on her journey and then drew them on our map. We then talked about how she would get there.
#RS said “She needs to go over the bridge.”
#RE said “She can’t swim in the water so she will have to go around it.”
We have been making pictures of fireworks.

In Reception, we have been learning about different shapes. Today some of the children used the shapes to create their own shape patterns. When i asked the children what shapes they had used in their patterns some of them were able to tell me that they had used a hexagon and how many sides and corners it had!

Today the children noticed that there was something different about the sky. Whilst we were outside the sun turned a very bright orange/red colour and the clouds were very dark. The children discussed what could have happened and why is was like that.
Some of the children decided that it was on fire and it was burning the sky! We then talked about the dangers of the sun and was to stay safe from it even in the colder months.
Well done to this group of pupils who used a picture as a stimulus . The pupils worked together and when asked what thy had created they said ‘ A castle.’

Reception brought in their teddy bears and had a picnic, but they had to be careful that Goldilocks wasn’t around to eat any of it up! The children then went on a hunt for Goldilocks with their teddies around school. Finally they could hear snoring coming from the shed so we think Goldilocks may have fallen asleep in there!
